Jean Gosselin
Violin maker
(fl. 1814 – 1851)
Jean Gosselin was born in Bordeaux. He studied under Koliker in Paris and worked in the Stradivari model. His craftsmanship was neat, elegant, and refined, often featuring fine golden-orange or red varnish. Bird's-eye maple was frequently used in his creations. He considered himself a dilettante, and it is believed that some of the work attributed to him was completed by other craftsmen from Paris or Mirecourt.
