Carl Heinrich Knopf was a violin and bow maker trained by his uncle Christian Friedrich. He established himself independently in Berlin in 1868 and was employed at the Lowendall factory from 1873 to 1885. Knopf later moved to Moscow to work for Zimmermann and Kittel, producing commercial trade quality violins and fine bows. He was known for supplying many fine bows to the Kittel shop in Saint Petersburg, resulting in many of his bows bearing the Kittel brand. His work is stamped 'H. KNOPF BERLIN'.
