Thomas Rauch
Violin maker
(1702 – after 1746)
Thomas Rauch was the son of Sebastian Rauch I and is believed to have been a pupil of Thomas Edlinger. He moved from Prague to Wroclaw around 1737. His early work, much in the style of Edlinger, featured a high-arched Stainer model characterized by a very dark red-brown varnish. A notable example of his craftsmanship is a fine viola d'amore in the Heyer Collection, Cologne, which includes a carved female head and is labelled.
