Claude Pirot
Violin maker
(1792 – 1835)
Claude Pirot established his workshop in the rue des Grands Augustins. He created fine Stradivari models, some featuring slightly raised arches; the best examples were comparable to those of Lupot. His scrolls were finely crafted with elongated peg boxes. He used excellent materials, frequently employing backs made from a single piece. The varnish was thick, either red-brown or pale yellow. Occasionally, his work was branded on the lower rib. A printed label was also present.
