Emilio Petraglia was a pupil in Buenos Aires of Giovanni Capalbo. He was appointed luthier to the Argentine government in 1937. He served as curator of the I. F. Blanco stringed instrument collection at the Buenos Aires Municipal Museum. His research focused on the use of local timbers in lutherie. He was credited with producing 200 violins, violas, and cellos by 1948, including Stradivari and personal models. He received endorsements from Kreisler, Thibaud, and others.
