Carlo Guadagnini I
Violin maker
(1768 – 1816)
Carlo Guadagnini was the son, pupil, and successor of Giovanni Battista Guadagnini. After his father's death, he worked alongside his brother Gaetano as Tratelli Guadagnini, making guitars and performing violin repairs and adjustments. With no heirs, Gaetano's business passed to Carlo's eldest son, Gaetano (II), upon his death in 1817. Few violins were recorded; one example featured a scroll that closely resembled Giovanni Battista's style, characterized by a slightly eccentric outline with prominent, protruding corners, a somewhat coarse finish, and yellow-amber varnish.
