Charles Francis Albert I
Bow maker / Violin maker
(1842 – 1901)
Charles Francis Albert was a violin and bow maker, the son of John Albert. He emigrated to the USA in 1854 and established his own business in 1865 after working for his father. Albert was regarded as one of the finest makers and restorers in the US during his time, creating Stradivari and Guarneri models and often utilizing locally sourced woods. Many of his later instruments were imported unvarnished from European factories and hand-finished. His violins were branded internally with 'C. F. Albert, Philada', while his bows bore the inscription: 'C. F. Albert Charles F. Albert / Philadelphia fecit Anno 18.. C.J.A.' He was succeeded by his son, Charles Francis Albert Jr.
