Charles Gaillard was a violin and bow maker, the son of Louis Gaillard. He was the first apprentice of C.A. Gand in Paris before establishing his own shop, initially in the Faubourg Poissonnière and later at 20 rue Notre-Dame de Rouvrance from 1865. Gaillard produced fine work in the Gand style, with some instruments modeled on Guarneri.
