Joseph Thomas Klotz
Violin maker
(1743 – after 1811)
One of the finest makers of his family, Joseph Thomas Klotz was the son of Sebastian I and grandson of Matthias Klotz. His work is rare but shows exemplary craftsmanship and materials. Archings are moderately flat, and f-holes are beautifully shaped. Joseph usually used only his first name on his labels, and his son Joseph II generally signed his work "Joseph Klotz junior" to distinguish himself from his father.
