Jacques Lafleur
Bow maker
(1757 – 1833)
Jacques Lafleur was a violin and bow maker. He apprenticed in Mirecourt and associated with the Adam family there. He founded the music publishing company Alliance Musicale, which later expanded into instrument making. He established himself independently in Paris, first at rue de la Coutellerie, then at 32 rue de la Juiverie, and from around 1780 at rue de la Cité. His workmen made violins and cellos labeled with his name, featuring a Vuillaume style and red varnish. His own bows included ornate ivory fittings and an ivory plate on the stick at the frog. From around 1812, he developed his style based on the Lupot-Eury patterns, branding them as LAFLEUR A PARIS. His earlier work was branded simply as LAFLEUR.
