George McGeorge
Violin maker
(1785 – 1821)
George McGeorge worked with Matthew Hardie from approximately 1796 to 1800. He established himself independently in 1801. Henley provided a detailed description of finely crafted violins based on Stradivari models, featuring a spirit varnish with a rose-red tint. He also asserted that many of McGeorge's instruments were sold as the creations of Hardie. Rattray expressed skepticism about this claim, noting that while the name appears in Edinburgh archives, there is no known association with violin making. The instruments were signed internally: 'G. McGeorge Edinburgh. '.
