‘ex-Havemeyer’ Guadagnini of c. 1743
Tarisio’s sale of the ‘Havemeyer’ cello by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini in May 2016 for $1.505 million set two world records: the highest price paid for a Guadagnini at auction, and the highest price a cello has ever achieved at auction. Previously belonging to the American industrialist and entrepreneur, the cello is now played by a leading US soloist.
