Branded twice to the inside back and top, "Gand & Bernardel."

Dating from 1890, this violin displays the careful workmanship, characteristic red varnish and finely selected materials associated with the 19th century French school, in particular, the Bernardels. The instrument reflects the makers’ care and skill in its construction, with lower arching typical of the French tradition, contributing to a powerful and focused sound.
