Labeled, "M.° Liutaio Giuseppe Stefanini fece anno 1981 - Brescia."
Signed to the label.
LOB: 35.6 cm
The instrument displays precisely carved soundholes, well-formed edges, and sharply executed purfling. Notably, the purfling mitres tend to lose their curve and meet as straight strands—an idiosyncratic feature clearly visible in this example. Instruments bearing Stefanini’s own label, as here, are typically finished with a golden varnish over a bright, reflective ground, in contrast to the more commonly reddish varnish seen on those sold through the Bisiach workshop, likely applied there.
The label itself is also characteristic, featuring the maker’s G-clef motif—echoing his personal letterhead—and trimmed with scalloped edges. Altogether, this violin presents a compelling and authentic example of Stefanini’s work, combining individuality, precision, and a quietly distinctive voice within modern Italian making.
