Last sold to the current owner in 1980, this cello comes to us from the German cellist Hans-Eberhard Dentler (pictured playing this cello). He studied with Siegfried Barchet and Pierre Fournier and made a career performing throughout Europe, notably receiving several invitations to play J. S. Bach’s cello suites for Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican. He founded the ensemble 'L'Arte della Fuga' in 1996 and has published extensively on the music of J. S. Bach.
