This viola by Gand & Bernardel, made in 1877, is a very fine and freshly preserved example of the makers’ work. The instrument displays hallmark features of the Gand & Bernardel output, including a deep red varnish and an attractively flamed maple back. Meticulously finished and built on a Stradivari-inspired model, it reflects the workshop’s high standards of craftsmanship. With a comfortable and ideal back length of 41.2 cm, this viola offers an excellent balance of playability and quality, making it an appealing choice for both musicians and collectors.
