Position: Cataloguer & Workshop Assistant
Reports to: General Manager & Head of Auctions
Works closely with: Head of London, Account Coordinator
Location: 12 Park Square West, London NW1 4LJ
Contract: Full-time (40hrs per week) in-house, Permanent
Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 per annum commensurate with experience
Hours: 10am-6pm Monday-Friday (TOIL compensation for occasional evening/weekend hours)

Job Role
Ideal for somebody with workshop experience as a violin or bowmaker, you will be solely responsible for the cataloguing of instruments and bows for Tarisio’s London office. This will include maintaining a watertight Goods In/Goods Out process, initial condition checks of property arriving to Tarisio, detailed cataloguing, dendrochronology, and diagnostic infra-red and ultraviolet photography to support condition reports. This role also benefits from the diverse requirements of the auction cycle, including handling pre-sale administration, responsibility for in-house shipping and packing, and answering property-specific bidder inquiries. Key Responsibilities
Cataloguing
– Detailed cataloguing of all instruments/bows and any accompanying documentation
– Maintaining accurate and up-to-date inventory information
– Identifying and reporting endangered species materials
– Performing scanning and/or photography for dendrochronology
– Coordinating with the Luthier to prepare properties for auction
– Maintaining physical spaces for storage and presenting of instruments (vault and showrooms)
– Scheduling and liaising with photographer, luthiers, and external personnel
Workshop Assistance
– Execution of our first-class packing standards to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of our inventory
– Opportunity, if trained, to create condition reports for auction and private sale properties (graphical and written)
– Preparation and digitisation of condition reports performed by in-house luthier (graphical and written)
– Performing infra-red and ultraviolet photography to support condition reports
– Handling administration of CT scans (off-site)
Couriering
– Availability to travel with hand-carried high-value inventory, mostly within Europe and to/from London, to retrieve or deliver property
Personal Specifications (desired)
Workshop experience as a violin- or bowmaker
Bachelor’s (Undergraduate) Degree or equivalent
Experience in an area such as art shipping, auction/arts administration and/or operations and logistics within a retail environment
Experience of fine art/antique handling
A love of music and desire to work within a creative environment
Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
Strong customer service ethics and high expectations for quality
Strong verbal/written communication, and interpersonal skills
Process-oriented and adaptable mindset
Ability to work with Mac systems and Google apps
Physical ability to help move large boxes around the office, and be on your feet for around 30%
of the time
Strong teamwork mindset, paired with an ability to work independently
