TARISIO ANNOUNCES EUROPEAN EXPANSION

Tarisio Auctioneers has just hired Naomi Sadler, editor of The Strad, to open a London office. Initially, Sadler says, she’ll be helping to publicize Tarisio’s expansion into Europe, traveling to trades shows, making the right contacts. “Tarisio has an extremely good profile in North America,” she says. “I’ll be making sure the rest of the world knows about it.” Eventually, she’ll assume the role of specialist, drawing on her background as a player and her ten-year tenure at The Strad. “It’s amazing what you learn,” she says, citing the research involved in producing the magazine and The Strad calendar. Sadler has also had a front-row seat through all the recent changes in the auction world. “When I started, the auction scene was quite stable with the four auction houses in London,” she says. But with the combining of Phillips and Bonhams, the advent of Tarisio, and changes at Christie’s following the departure of Jamie Buchanan to form Brompton’s Auctioneers with Peter Horner, it’s a very different business. “I love The Strad,” she says, but after ten years Sadler felt the time was right to move on and learn new skills, to do something different in the same industry.
