Certificate: W. E. Hill & Sons, London (1957) "We certify that the Violin sold by us to Mr. C. E. Horton of Ipswich, Suffolk, was made by Antonio Stradivari of Cremona whose original label dated 1698...the instrument bears. The back, in one piece, of handsome wood marked by an irregular curl descending to the left, the sides and head are of similar wood. The table of pine of fine grain at centre opening on the flanks, the varnish of a golden-orange colour. This instrument is characteristic of the early period of the maker's work, and has been restored to its present fine condition."
