Theodore Pitcairn, a noted philanthropist, bought this violin in 1953 on behalf of the violinist Anshel Brusilow, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1959–1966. He sold the violin after leaving the orchestra for a conducting career.Provenance
