"The "Kreisler" bears an old reproduction 1716 Stradivari label on which the handwriting of Count Cozio di Salabue can be recognized in the two final digits of the date. By deduction, it seems this violin might be one of two referred to in Count Cozio's inventory as made in 1733. . . William Ebsworth Hill purchased it in 1875 from the agents of a Turin nobleman, who was probably representing the family of the Marquis Provana. . ."
