Notes:
"At the time of writing the Hill brothers reported that they knew of only fourteen violoncellos from the hand of Andrea Guarneri. The present instrument is an example of the smaller and more manageable form which they believed was in all probability the innovation of this maker commencing from around 1690. At the time that this violoncello was made, Andrea was about 71 years old and therefore the suggestion by the Hills and by Charles Beare in 'The New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments' (Vol 2, pp83) that his son Giuseppe probably assisted in the production of these later instruments is very logical."Sotheby's Musical Instruments Auction Catalog, June 15, 1989, London, Sotheby's, Sotheby's Musical Instruments Auction Catalog, June 15, 1989, London, London
