Jacob Stainer, Absam, 1660

Violin: 41714

Back: One-piece with a coat of arms painted on the upper back

Scroll: Carved dragon's head

Notes:

"Locally, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, tested the paint pigments in order to verify the Lyon and Healy certificate's date of being made c.1660. The analysis resulted in it's 1660 date of origin to be accurate, due in part for the green used in the wreath. The substance is called "Verdigris" or "Copper Resinate." Use of the scrappings from copper and other sources, was widely abandoned around the turn of the century, 1700, when other forms of chemicals and pigments produced better results."
