Remembering Ivry Gitlis

Saddened by the death of the legendary Ivry Gitlis we share our interview with the maestro from 2016.

“Four years ago I had the honor of sitting down with the inimitable Ivry Gitlis for an interview in celebration of the 60th anniversary of his owning the 1713 ‘Sancy’ Stradivari. Tracing the story of this last-minute ‘arranged marriage’, he spoke of how his relationship with the violin grew slowly over time. It was a fascinating conversation looking back on his career, his friendships and his thoughts on classical music today. You will be greatly missed and long celebrated, Ivry. Ivry Gitlis played the ‘Sancy’ Stradivari violin of 1713, which takes its name from its first known owner, the Leloup family of Sancy in the Auverge region of central France. (Read more )
