William, Charles & Alfred Voller, London, 1892
Violin: 56363
Labeled, "Gio. Bapt. Grancino in Contrada / Largha di Milano anno 1698."
Back: Two-piece
Length of back: 35.45 cm
Upper bouts: 16.85 cm
Middle bouts: 11.3 cm
Lower bouts: 21.15 cm
Notes:
"Although labelled as a Grancino, the instrument illustrated on page 54 represents the run-of-the-mill generic 'Old Italian' style that the Vollers seem to have produced at will. There are no clues to its date, but the wotk appears to fit neatly with other examples bearing the Hart label dated between 1890 and 1900. It could pass equally well as a Gagliano, a Balestrieri, or any other eighteenth-century Italian maker of the second division, given a credible provenance and a gullible buyer."The Voller Brothers, John Dilworth, Andrew Fairfax & John Milnes, The Voller Brothers, Oxford
