"Formerly the property of the 18th Century composer and violin virtuoso Francois Hippolite Bartelemon from whom the present owner is descended. Bartelemon, of whom Dr. Burney wrote in glowing terms, was born in 1741 in Bordeaux but made his career chiefly in England. He was related to Dr. Arne through his wife and was a close friend of Joseph Haydn.
