"A VIOLIN after an early Brecian or Venetian model. . .The one-piece back of medium curl descending very slightly from left to right, carved in relief in the corners with a leaf device, a geometrical device inlaid in purfling at the top and the bottom, the latter incorporating the letter C, painted in the upper back with an angel playing a rebec, the ribs of medium curl, artificially scuffed and with a simple foliate decoration in gilt on the centre bouts, the pegbox of plain .wood surmounted by a carved head of a girl with ringlets and wearing a gilded scull cap, the cheeks with further gilding, the table of fine grain carved in the corners en suite with the back, double purfling throughout, the varnish of a golden-brown colour."Sotheby's Musical Instruments Auction Catalog, April 29, 1993, London, Sotheby's, Sotheby's Musical Instruments Auction Catalog, April 29, 1993, London, London
