"It shows a number of unusal features for a Pressenda, in particular very long purfling joints that are drawn out to the end of the corners, a clumsy sense of arching, and a surprisingly crude scroll, all incroporated, however, into a violin which bears the unmistakable style of the great master he will come. The pattern is very much that of Stradivari, as is the f, and even at this early date both the varnish stains into the wood and the carving guides are left visible and intact."
