"This instrument was most likely made in the workshop of Hieronymus Amati primarily by Nicolo who had, by this time, much taken over the shop's production. Recent research has unearthed the death certificate of Antonio, who, previous to the research, had been thought to have lived well into the 17th century. The certificate attributing the violin to Antonius and Hieronymus amati was written some years before this valuable research was uncovered. Some characteristics of this instrument are likely either the work of Hieronymus or more closely inspired by him than of Nicolo's own model."
