Letter: Rembert Wurlitzer Inc., New York, NY (1954) States that the instrument carries a reproduction of a label of Joseph Guarnerius filius Andrea. The letter states "According to Hill, he [del Gesù] had left his father's shop in the year 1723 and we could expect him to use his own labels from that year on. Your violin, however, has the characteristics of a slightly earlier work and we therefore date it from around 1720 . . . . Your instrument is a very bold type which we sometimes meet with even at this early period and we congratulate you on having been able to acquire it."- Letter: W. E.
