Camillo Camilli, Mantua, 1730
Small Violin: 44779
Labeled, "Camillus Camilli Fecit / Mantua 1730."
Back: One-piece cut on the slab
Top: of broad grain
Scroll: almost plain
Ribs: of medium curl
Varnish: Orange-brown
Length of back: 34.5 cm
Notes:
"Unquestionably, this was a fine instrument, in good condition and still possessing its original label. There were, however, several qualifying factors: its tone was shrill and harsh; at 13-3/4 inches (34.5 mm.) it was considerably under normal size; and finally, its reserve was high."Sotheby's Sixth New York Musical Instrument Auction, Nov. 24, 1979, Philip J. Kass, Journal of the Violin Society of America, Vol. V, No. 3, Flushing, NY
