Notes:
"This violin is referred to by Doring and Henley as the 'ex Regnier or Reynier'. The confusion over the name seems to stem from the Hart certificate in which George Hart states that 'This violin is known as "the Regnier Stradivar" from its having belonged to the celebrated French violinist of that name.' In fact he was probably referring to Leon Reynier who is known to have been a prize winner at the Paris Conservatoire in 1847 and who, up until 1871 owned another Stradivari violin dated 1681 which has taken his name (see Doring p. 43)."Sotheby's Important Musical Instruments Auction Catalog, October 18, 1979, London, Sotheby's, Sotheby's Important Musical Instruments Auction Catalog, October 18, 1979, London, London
