Back: Two-piece of medium curl slanting upwards from the joint

Top: of even medium grain

Scroll: of broad curl

Ribs: of narrower curl

Varnish: Red-brown over a golden ground

Length of back: 35.8 cm

Upper bouts: 16.85 cm

Middle bouts: 11 cm

Lower bouts: 20.8 cm

Notes:

Due to an injury to his fingers, Professor Bartl had the violin modified so that he could play it left-handed. In 1909, probably with a new owner, it was restored to its original right-hand form.
