Back: One-piece, slab-cut of some medium and broad curl ascending to the left
Top: close-grained, broadening slightly on the base flanks
Scroll: later, of bolder medium curl
Varnish: Red on a golden brown ground
Length of back: 35.7 cm
Upper bouts: 16.8 cm
Lower bouts: 20.8 cm

- Dendrochronology report: John C. Topham, Surrey (2003) "I am happy to say that the sequences from the front of the Violin cross match very significantly other dated instrument sequences and chronologies at the dates shown in the report." The report states that the two pieces of the table probably came from different trees of a similar early period. "..What is rather pleasing is the bass side very closely resembles the bass side of another Antonio Stradivari Violin dated 1699..."
