The violin was bought for Katherine, daughter of Robert Finnie McEwen, when she was eight years old. Katherine later became the Countess of Scarborough."The Hills recorded the first proprietor of the violin as the Countess of Seaford, who was probably Mary Elizabeth Nina Townend, wife of the Scottish nobleman Jamie Ogilvie-Grant." – Alessandra Barabaschi
