This violin was the subject of a controversy in the 1950s due to the fact that it had a printed label. The dispute revolved around whether Stainer ever used printed labels. At the time, most experts believed that the printed label was authentic, but Senn and Roy's subsequent work have cast considerable doubt upon the authenticity of printed Stainer labels.The Stainer Labels, Ernest N.
