The ribs decorated with gilt inscription: "..Prix décerné..derlé, élève du conservatoire de Musique, Classe de M Baillot."
In the center of the back a crest bears the letters, “L. P.” in reference to Louis-Philippe, King of France.
Jean-Jacques-Simon Schwaederlé was awarded this violin upon winning first prize in the Paris Conservatory competition in 1840. Illustrated in Sylvette Milliot's Nicolas Lupot : Ses contemporains et ses successeurs page 225.
