Labeled, "Augustus Pollastri Raphaelis Fiorini Alumnus Fecit Bononiae an. 1926." Chicken branded to the lower rib.
Showing the hand of his brother Gaetano. – This violin bears an original label of Augusto and was made in 1926, a year before Augusto's death. It is well known that the instruments produced during this period were substantially made by Augusto's brother Gaetano under the direction of Augusto. As such, we refer to this as the work of Augusto showing the hand of Gaetano.
Back: in two pieces of quarter cut maple with broad-width flame descending from the center seam.
Top: in two pieces of spruce with medium-width grain broadening toward the edges.
Scroll: of similar wood.
Ribs: of similar wood.
Varnish: of a golden red orange-brown color.
Length of back: 35.7 cm
Upper bouts: 16.6 cm
Middle bouts: 11.2 cm
Lower bouts: 20.5 cm
