Notes:
This copy "is extremely derailed and convincing, and plainly made without dishonest intent. Since the original instrument was in plain sight, there was no chance that this copy could be substituted or passed off as the original. It is merely a reproduction, not a fake, although an extremely artistic and accomplished one. The violin also carries a rare label, although one provided for it later on by Wurlitzer & Co. of New York, by whom it was sold, probably after 1920. . . .The work on this violin is vety sophisticated, and there seems to have been a quantum leap in the Vollers' efforts around 1900. This copy of the 'Leduc' and others which followed are blow-by-blow renderings of mästet insffuments of the classical period, and as such are virtually unprecedented in violin-making history. . . ."
