Little is known about the early life of Romano Marengo, but at some point in his youth he moved to Turin, where he was employed by his relative Enrico Marchetti. After Benedetto Gioffredo "Rinaldi's" death in 1888, Marengo took over his thriving shop ...Read More and worked for Rinaldi's widow. From 1890 to 1900, the shop was known as "Marengo-Rinaldi," until it dissolved and Marengo continued working on his own, all the while in the same premises. While his output is, on the whole, characteristically Piedmontese, the quality of craftsmanship and stylistic details vary according to the maker who assisted him in each individual example. Pressenda and Rocca models are most typical. Marengo's success as a businessman placed him in a position to employ the leading Turinese makers of his day, including Fagnola, Enrico and Edoardo Marchetti, Oddone, and Guerra. Read Less
