Helmuth Ellersieck

Helmuth Ellersieck, son of Albert Ellersieck, apprenticed with Ernest Kreul in Markneukirchen from 1900 to 1903. He later worked for Otto Möckel and August Friedel in Berlin, and subsequently for Hjorth in Copenhagen. In 1914, he moved to Oslo to work with Rummelhof-Hansen, taking over the workshop in 1918. Ellersieck emigrated to the USA in 1927, settling in Los Angeles and retiring to Laguna Beach around 1956. His business was taken over by O. Lyngaas. He created Stradivari and Guarneri models, used orange oil varnish, and was recognized for his skill in making as well as for his repair and restoration work. He branded his instruments beneath the button: 'H. Ellersieck.'
