Floriano Guidanti
Violin maker
(c. 1643 – 1715)
There is some mystery surrounding the Guidanti family of makers, who worked in Bologna during and immediately after the Tononi family. Floriano Guidanti seems to have been employed by the Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna as a repairer of instruments, a position in which he was succeeded by Giovanni Guidanti, though the familial relationship is unclear. In fact, recent research suggests that the Guidanti family was much larger than originally thought, and until more research is done on this important family of makers, definitive attributions to them remain speculative.
