Fra Agostino Facini
Violin maker
(fl. 1731 – 1742)
Alongside Dom Nicolo Marchioni, Fra Agostino Facini is one of several 18th century Bolognese makers with some sort of connection to the Catholic church. In Facini's case, violin making was likely a hobby he pursued alongside his clerical duties roughly from 1732 to 1742. His surname is uncommon in Bologna, and it is possible that he may have been born elsewhere. In general his work is quite rare and achieves a remarkable standard for an amateur maker. At least one existing example is on a Pietro Guarneri model.
