Frank Napier, the third son of William Napier, joined the firm of W.E. Hill & Sons in 1904. In collaboration with William C. Retford, he devised a new production model which employed specialized metalworkers for bow fittings. He left in 1930 to open his own shop in Cornwall. Napier's bows for the firm are marked with three leaves, or occasionally stamped with Roman numerals.
