Pietro Giacomo Rogeri
Violin maker
(1665 – 1724)
The son of Giovanni Battista Rogeri, Pietro Giacomo Rogeri began to assist his father around 1690, though his earliest known instruments date from 1705. Rogeri usually spelled his name in a Latinized form 'Ruggerius' leading to speculation about a connection between the Brescian Rogeri and Cremonese Rugeri families, but their work shows few similarities. He was an excellent craftsman, and his choice of materials was usually good, although some examples with imitation purfling and cheaper materials are known. In general Rogeri elaborated on some of the particular details seen in his father's work, especially the robust scrolls and sculpted corners.
