Marco Dobretsovich
Violin maker
(1891 – c. 1960)
Marco Dobretsovich moved to Cairo in 1914. He was a pupil of Pollastri in Bologna around 1920. He established himself in Alexandria and later in Cairo, Egypt. His work was very good, unsurprisingly reminiscent of Pollastri, featuring good Stradivari form, a well-executed low arch, and a very pleasing personality with light orange oil varnish. In 1938, he made a quartet that was presented to King Farouk on his marriage.
