Born in Dijon, son of François Jacques Barbé. Pupil of Derazey; went on to work for Jacquot in Nancy, Miremont, Gand and Bernardel and then Vuillaume in Paris. Instruments bearing his own label tend to be copies of the 'Messiah' Stradivari. Label: Télesphore Barbé / Ex premier ouvrier de J. B. Vuillaume / Médaillé à l'Exposition de 18XX / Paris. Died in Mirecourt.
