Luiz Amorim was born in Curitiba, Brazil, and graduated in mechanics from the Federal Center of Technological Studies in 1979, and drawing, painting, and sculpture at the State School of Music and Fine Arts in 1985. After working as an artist for a decade, Luiz began his instrument making career in 1995 by making lyres and kanteles, before moving on to quartet instruments.
In 2018, Luiz, his wife Betina Schreiner and their two sons Luan and Gaian, opened new headquarters in Cremona focusing on restoration and new violinmaking.
