Otto Möckel
Violin maker
(1869 – c. 1937)
The son and pupil of Oswald Möckel, he received intensive training in violin-making from his father. Otto was a philanthropist, a practising freemason and a cello player. He was a commercially successful maker, and a published author about violin-making matters, having founding the magazine 'Die Geige' in 1928, and having written the reputed Die Kunst des Geigenbaues (The Art of Violin-makers) (Leipzig, 1930).
Oswald and Otto collaboratively made a violin that took part in the great trade exhibition in Berlin in 1896. They are considered to be the best Berlin violin makers of the period.
