Francesco Emiliani
Violin maker
(c. 1680 – 1736)
Francesco Emiliani worked on via del Governo Vecchio, Rome. He persisted with a hybrid Amati/Stainer model of slightly diminished scale, which was beautifully made and very Italianate, featuring fine soft golden oil varnish. The edgework and purfling were very neat. The arching was not exaggerated in any way. The soundholes were slender and upright, reminiscent of Rogeri. Although not prolific, rare cellos by him were especially desirable concert instruments. Franciscus Emilianis Roma Franciscus de Emilianis fecit / Roma anno Dei 172..
